Sound Healing

Sound is a powerful tool when working with the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for our rest & digest state. The vibrations from the bowls not only create sound, they also help our nervous system come back to a state of balance, which helps us relax and feel at peace.

what to expect during a sound healing session

I welcome you in the space by introducing the healing properties of sound. Remind you that you’re in full control of the process and are free to choose how much you want to let the sound affect your physical and emotional state.

I then invite you to lay down on your mat and make yourself as comfortable as possible. We start with a short guided meditation using visualisation to put you in the best state of mind before letting the sound amplify your intention.

At the end of the session, I gently bring you back from your deep state of relaxation using chimes and my voice.

The science of sound healing

Sound has the capacity to induce a shift in our mood. Have you noticed how horror movies soundtracks tend to use dissonant, high pitch sounds? This is no accident: high pitch — high frequencies — encourage alertness and focus, and film directors know that the right soundtrack will participate in creating the exact atmosphere they’re after for their movie. On the other hand, low frequencies tend to initiate a state of relaxation. Those frequencies can influence our brain activity, and help slow down the heart rate, reduce blood pressure, and promote relaxation.

That’s because the human brain is essentially an electrical device, with different tasks and emotional states generating different electromagnetic frequencies. Each sound we hear or feel through its vibrations, depending on its frequency, will generate a response in the brain. By carefully choosing the right frequencies — the right sounds — we can influence a specific brain response, which will eventually affect the entire body state.
